so this is Hokkaido

twenty-seven years and one million words
After more than 9.5 years in this country, I've finally set foot on the island of Hokkaido. We landed at "New Chitose" and headed south to some volcanic islands. I wanted to see the volcanic terrain at the top of one of the mountains, but the road was shut due to a landslide. But we splashed around in the lake for a bit, then headed on to our hotel.
At night, we found most of the restaurants in Toyako Onsen were closed or packed with visitors, so we had combini food. The hotel is on the summit of a large hill overlooking both Lake Toya and the Pacific. It's quite impressive (and comfortable).
