lots of pedestrian injuries

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2012.11.02

My renewed streetcar ridership is paying off in that I'm getting plenty of time to study. Due to an arson on Queen street, the Queen street cars are currently running across King while downtown, so it's an easy one-ride trip to work and back (barring short turns).

In related news, some eight collisions involving pedestrians were recorded yesterday including two fatalities. While only ("only") three cyclists are killed on Toronto's streets every year, I have to admit that at this time of year safety is a factor. Streets are choked with slippery, muddy rotting leaves, everything's wet, visibility is diminished due to the near-constant cloud and the short days.... Ugh.

rand()m quote

Society is indeed a contract... [the state] is a partnership in all science; a partnership in all art; a partnership in every virtue, and in all perfection. As the ends of such a partnership cannot be obtained in many generations, it becomes a partnership not only between those who are living, but between those who are living, those who are dead, and those who are to be born.

—Edmund Burke
