movie review - A Simple Plan

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 1999.07.16

A charmless flick about two small-town brothers (played by the respective Bills) and the loser friend of the older sibling. The three find a plane that's crashed in the woods. In the plane is a bag of cash. The three decide to keep the loot, which proves their downfall a la Shallow Grave and a dozen other flicks with similar plot and superior execution.

While Bill & Billy prove their thorough acting skills, the story really drags, and whatshername as Paxton's wife is a really annoying, aggravating addition that detracts from every scene that includes her. This is another real disappointment from Sam Raimi, whose earliest stuff (the Evil Dead flicks) I really liked.

Not recommended.

rand()m quote

For a long time I was very bitter that the people who controlled the means of anybody ever hearing my songs were never gonna play them. They only favored music that I specifically and particularly hated, and I wanted them dead. Suddenly, there was another avenue. I started hearing my stuff coming out of bars and then it started to happen little by little -- a movie song here or a TV ad there.
