witnessed a police chase

Kokubunji, 2026.03.12

Today I witnessed a police chase. I was rolling up to a red light at a four-lane-by-four-lane intersection when I noticed a police car fire up its lights. The officer bellowed out some instructions, and I realized that an U*er Eats cyclist had cruised through a red, rolling straight past the officer as he did so. Everyone came to a stop as the officer rolled into the intersection, and the Ube* cyclist ducked down a side street I've used hundreds of times. Now stopped at the intersection, I used the cross-walk to walk my bike across and then hopped on again to roll down the broad shared cycling/pedestrian lanes next to the road. To my amazement, the *ber cyclist popped out in front of me from a lane-way off the side street. He turned to head in the same direction as me, quickly pulling into the next lane just as the officer appeared in his vehicle. I pointed in the direction taken by the Ub*r cyclist, but the cop did a quick three-point turn and headed back to perhaps intercept the cyclist again. I'll never know, but I wish the office well.

Because those U*er guys are the very worst offenders of an almost universally terrible approach to red lights in this city.
