The Girl's long walk
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
The Girl and I went to a ravine that a friend told me about a few years ago. When we got there we found that entrance to the ravine was shut because flooding had weakened several trees. But we still found our way down into the lower ravine via a temple grounds. Then we decided to walk back along the river and then across a bridge and along a long shopping street. It was a fine time, and The Girl managed the 5.1km walk just fine.
Along the way, she exclaimed, "a golf ball!" It turned out that she'd made it eleven years without seeing one. I gave her a ten yen coin and she dug it out and now I suppose it will be drifting around our home forever.
