apple vs intel chip performance

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Kokubunji, 2022.10.19

I watched a Youtube video relating the recent performance gains by Apple's chips versus Intel's bloated old architecture. The graphic above shows computational outcomes but what's really striking is that the top chip from Intel needs 125 Watts and the top Apple chip needs 5 Watts. That's 25x the performance on the basis of power consumption. In a time when we're facing energy and climate crises, that's a big deal.

The rest of the video was about things like Intel's constant problems with things like bribery and forcing partners into certain unequal business arrangements. I regret owning several Intel-based systems. I hope that Microsoft makes headway with their ARM chips and puts Intel out of the Windows business.
