movie review - The King's Man

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Kokubunji, 2022.10.11

This is a curiously unappealing prequel to "The Kingsman", a modestly original take on the spy genre. Set in the first-world-war period, it's a tale that spans much of Europe as the secret spy agency finds its feet in a case involving many historical people. It veers through a number of tones and aspects on its way, treating things in turn either too seriously (Rasputin) or nowhere near seriously enough (trench warfare).

Not recommended. See "The Kingsman" for the same fare in a better presentation.

A lot of people lose the spirit of childhood. Every child has a lot of imagination and you lose it little by little. I don't know why, but I kept it.
