movie review - Kingsman: The Secret Service
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
The way this movie was advertised didn't appeal to me, somehow. But I got around to it and I'm glad I did. It's about a kid from a disadvantaged background being recruited into a secret government intelligence unit that operates behind the guise of a men's tailor shop. It's smart, it's well-paced, it's fairly original, and it couldn't possibly be better cast. It keeps a steady and engaging tone throughout, and even the Bond-like plot plays well. There's lots for everyone to do in this thing, and after years of super-hero movies where it's like they have far more characters than plot to stuff them in, even that is a welcome break.
Recommended.
