back for luggage

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

St Catharines, 2022.07.29

We've retrieved our luggage. It was a close thing, as it turns out. We arrived in the luggage retrieval area and claimed our stuff just by showing the right number of claims tickets to the fellow who was idly "manning" the place (neither of us originally noticed that he was an employee). The funny thing is that as we collected it, they were gathering the various luggage for transport to somewhere else, which I assume could only have made our retrieval harder.

Anyway, we're back and it is good. In the afternoon I got a SIM for my phone for use while I'm here. Mari and the kids did some clothes shopping to take advantage of the large-size needs of The Boy and me.

rand()m quote

The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to such a pass that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love, and in order to occupy and distract himself without love he gives way to passions and coarse pleasures, and sinks to bestiality in his vices, all from continual lying to other men and to himself.

—Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov
