movie review - Vivo

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Kokubunji, 2021.08.14

In this film, a girl in Miami finds a kinkajou (a rare monkey thing) while on a trip in Cuba. The thing decides to go back to with her to Miami to track down the long-lost love of the man with whom the kinkajou lived in Cuba. You see, the kinkajou is sentient but mute, a "fact" upon which a lot of the movie hinges. Anyway, the girl insists on going along on this quest, and all sorts of trouble follows.

It's got its moments and certainly has more emotional resonance than say a Woody Allen movie. And even when it's uneven it's at least charming.

Recommended. For "movie night" with the kids. It shouldn't necessarily be your first choice, but yeah.
