hello, southern Chiba

Tateyama, 2021.03.13

Today we went to a small city in southern Chiba prefecture called Tateyama. It's a resort town with strong fishing focus - lots of seafood restaurants and many independent owners operating fishing boats. We got here by driving down from distant Kokubunji, a trek that saw us cut across a broad swath of the city's west and south-west before we took the long tunnel across the water to Chiba. The tunnel's so long that it offers a midway break point, where we climbed a ramp and parked in the driving wind and rain above choppy grey water. The trip down the peninsular Chiba was lovely, we saw a number of surprising scenes like old rock quarries.

But tonight we got the bad news that the fishing trip that Mari had scheduled for tomorrow morning's been cancelled due to the expected high wind. So we went to a 24 hour tackle store and bought some inexpensive shore fishing gear. We'll see how it goes!
