journal live once more

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Kokubunji, 2021.07.25

I've taken my journal live again. I've felt a little blah with it being offline. I realize that a lot of the wring, especially in the early years, was terrible. But I also think that it's turned into the one thing I've done with my life. I mean, it's been 24.5 years now, I suspect it must be one of the longest-running journals or blogs anywhere.

I've tried to pare out all the stuff that pertains to kids to avoid any kind of privacy issue or future embarrassment for them.

rand()m quote

It has always seemed strange to me...The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling, are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest, are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second.

—John Steinbeck, Cannery Row
