scary summary of the Canadian economy

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Kokubunji, 2020.09.23

In an exchange with a friend in Canada who's a lawyer and former financial advisor, he wrote:

"I suspect/expect that you have better job prospects in Japan. The economy here is absolutely fucked. I think the economy is running on two cylinders - real estate and cheap loans. The number of clients that refinance 4,5,6 consumer loans into a new mortgage, based on an inflated appraisal due to current low interest rates driving up prices, would turn your hair white. When that music stops its going to be very bad news. Stay in Japan."

To be fair, he hasn't seen me in a while and doesn't know that my hair is way ahead of him. Anyway, he's prepping for a "SHTF" moment, and I suggested he look at a setup involving:

1. Solar panels

2. A Tesla battery wall

3. A powered/hand well pump

rand()m quote

I feel fortunate that I enjoyed the blandishments of modernity. I had hip replacement and root canal. I was able to travel on airplanes. I was able to take cheap food for granted. I went to the movies. I enjoyed rock 'n' roll. And now I'm ready to move on.
