movie review - Descendants 3

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2020.02.26

OK, I've sat through two of these with the kids. I'm about to leave for Japan and not see them for a few months, so I'll sit through a third. Believe it or not, I couldn't describe the differences between this one and the past ones, they all blur together like so many identically-conceived movie series (e.g. Harry Potter; oh we're going to that alley to by magic? And the same dude with no nose is the bad guy?).

But I won't waste any time on reviewing it. If you like musical teenage melodramas that somehow stretch a pencil sketch into three movies, or if you insist on watching these things with your children, then by all means see this. Otherwise - and here I'm assuming you're older than nine and/or saner than I am - skip it.

Not recommended.

It's weird, man. People can watch a movie where thousands of people die in a war and not a tear. Yet one collie dies .. and the entire nation collapses with grief.
