farewell to summer

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2019.09.25

My summer went by in a blur of long start-up weeks. All in all, I'd say my kids had a pretty good summer. Lots of activities. The Boy became a tennis champ and by far the best piano student at their school. The Girl flew through a swimming class she failed last year. And learned to ride a bike. And learned to fish. But of course when you ask them they'll tell you that *last summer* they got to go to Japan.

rand()m quote

It's difficult in times like these: ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality. It's a wonder I haven't abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.
