movie review - Prisoners

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2019.02.24

This is a movie about two girls who are taken from their families and the efforts to bring them back, both by the police and one of the fathers. It is an extremely difficult story in which some serious mistakes are made. The lead detective does an almost superhuman job and does some truly excellent work. The father meanwhile does exactly what he warned his son about in an opening hunting sequence - he starts doing whatever he thinks is right.

The cast of this movie is straight up superb and the pace and tone are perfect. It's not a short movie but I honestly can't think of a wasted moment.

Strongly recommended.
