movie review - The Christmas Chronicles

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2018.12.17

This is a charming Christmas story featuring a brother and sister who are spending X'mas eve alone (mum's working; dad's dead). The (younger) sister is intent on catching Santa in the act of delivering the gifts and actually does, which kicks off a chain of events that winds up with them at the North Pole attempting to "save Christmas" (happily, not in the angry "the war on Christmas" sense but actual calamity). It's clearly filmed in Toronto, which is fun for anyone who's done time there, and there's a Toronto joke where Santa uses the city as a flight path because "no one lives there". I spotted my daughter re-watching this one today, which is usually a good sign.

Recommended.

rand()m quote

Some people talk about living every day like it might be their last. Maybe that's good advice. Carpe diem and all that. But perhaps it's better to try to live every day like it might be everyone's last. If there are people in your life who are important to you, let them know...
