movie review - Gringo

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2018.12.13

This is the story of a corporate employee who is sent to Mexico for purposes that aren't quite what it seems. He's quickly involved in a deadly squabble over the drugs being produced in the company's Mexican locale, but to be honest everyone in this is such a drag that it's hard to get too concerned about him or the outcome. The plot mostly works but it's all the "characterization" in between, with weird, pointless things coming out of people's mouths that I disliked. And despite there being a fair bit of charm from the characters, more than a few things tended to develop in ways that seemed to go in one direction only to them fizzle.

I wanted to like this but found that increasingly hard.

Not recommended.

(I agree with the authors about The Beatles.)
