good times and a cupcake
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
I had the best cupcake of my life today, from a place on Gerrard called the Hype Food Company. We'd gathered at Chula, next door, for a superb Mexican meal. It was the send-off for our dear friend Yagu, who'd been visiting from Japan for a week. The kids wanted ice cream afterward, as I waited on the street I noticed Hype next door. I stepped in because they were pushing gluten free foods, and I've been one of those annoying gluten free people since being diagnosed with what was then called a "wheat allergy" in 1982. I bought one of their cupcakes and was astonished at how good it was. I had no idea that a baked thing without gluten could be so great.
