movie review - Train to Busan

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2018.08.30

This is a clever zombie movie set in Korea. Various parties board a train and one of them has been bitten. She dies and immediately re-animates. Now, being an old D&D guy I don't treat this kind of zombie as actually a zombie, what they're depicting here is a ghoul. But having a zombie situation on a train is interesting because it depicts a captive situation. At the same time the entire country is being overrun at an insane speed, and when they try to stop at a supposedly safe station .. whoo boy.

Recommended. For the insane speed, the hopeless grind, the screaming, and the short run length. It's shorter than my one-way commute. It's like a Motörhead song became a zombie movie. Hmm; maybe Overkill.

On the endless saga of Rob Ford, mayor of Toronto; "It shouldn't have had to come to this. I'm so tired of getting up every morning and wondering, 'What will it be today?' I'm so tired of giving the benefit of the doubt again and again, only to be let down again and again.... Somewhere a responsible adult has to appear, draw a bright moral line, tell the truth and say unequivocally what won't be tolerated. Somebody has to do the right thing."
