movie review - The Drop

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2018.08.15

This is a movie in which a bartender is dragged into the underworld of crime. The story progresses on a particular crime that's been committed, but the subtext is a separate crime that's long buried and only hinted by the thugs who frequent the place. I liked the vibe of the thing and the remarkable way that the characters - who all seem trapped in their positions in life - start to react when a single thread is pulled in the loose bindings that hold their world together.

Recommended. For a simple story that'll stick with you for a couple of days.
