movie review - Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
This is the tale of four high school kids that get swept up in an ancient video game that transports them to an in-game world of high stakes adventure. Each of the kids takes on a radically different persona with skills and traits that they must learn as they go. When I say high stakes I mean they learn immediately that they can die in-game and that there's almost certainly a kid roaming around in the game who seems to have been lost there for decades. There's so much to this premise that they could barely have gotten this wrong but they cast it well and jammed the thing with plenty of action and dialog and an even-handed amount of tension.
I really enjoyed this, the kids had a ball. Strongly recommended. So nice to write a happy review of a kids movie for once, thank you god (Cher's son).
