it's time to tune up my beater bike
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
The city salted the streets last week, a reminder that it's time to tune up my beater bike for the winter. Last winter I rode my "normal" 700c bike, and managed to gum it up with salt. The spokes and rim now need replacement, the frame's got touches of rust (at three years old!) and I've already replaced most of the drive train.
Not this year. I'll be back on the 1992 Rocky Mountain. I'll need some swept-up handlebars and a new front shifter, but I'm really looking forward to being back on some smaller wheels now that the season of obstacles is before us.
