movie review - The Red Turtle

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2016.11.28

This is a story of a man who is shipwrecked on a deserted island. He makes several attempts to leave via hand-made raft, but is thwarted each time. His only eventual company is an enigmatic red turtle. I can't really get into the rest of the plot without ruining the point, and that is that the whole thing unfolds in a very specific way. Because the engrossing story that follows does so without dialog. It was one of the most captivating movie experiences I can remember.

Strongly recommended.

Though defensive violence will always be a sad necessity in the eyes of men of principle, it would be still more unfortunate if wrongdoers should dominate just men.
