movie review - Ant-Man

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2016.10.04

Finally, a Super Hero movie I enjoyed. It's the story of a convict who meets a girl whose father is a mad scientist. The scientist's experimental technology grants our hero a strange power -- shrinking down to any imagineable size while retaining his abilities and strength. (You have to remember these are based on comic books; I really wonder how much of this is just Gen-X fan-service.)

What makes this one something I can recommend is the strong cast and the great chemistry between them, the good tone, the just-okay story (again; comic book), and the charisma of the lead. The tone is really important; unlike some of these things (ok, most), this one's not so self-serious.

Recommended.

rand()m quote

On the endless saga of Rob Ford, mayor of Toronto; "It shouldn't have had to come to this. I'm so tired of getting up every morning and wondering, 'What will it be today?' I'm so tired of giving the benefit of the doubt again and again, only to be let down again and again.... Somewhere a responsible adult has to appear, draw a bright moral line, tell the truth and say unequivocally what won't be tolerated. Somebody has to do the right thing."
