bigger nerd than ever

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2014.04.24

I've found a way to be a bigger nerd than ever; using an RFID-proof wallet. It's the natural outcome of having been the victim of identity theft AND having been subject to a data leak at a financial institution. I'm now getting more and more paranoid. And when I heard the "chief information security officer" of one of Canada's major banks speak at a conference six months ago about the importance of using an RFID-secure wallet to protect his identity and his credit/debit card, it stuck in my mind. While shopping for a new rear bicycle light tonight I saw an RFID-proof wallet in the store, and now I'm the proud carrier of a vinyl wallet.

Goodbye fancy deer-skin wallet. Hello possible protection from identity thieves stealing my details through a passive scanner. I figure it'll also shield me from accidental purchases on POS devices. It's a win all 'round.

rand()m quote

It may be that when we no longer know what to do we have come to our real work, and that when we no longer know which way to go we have come to our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings.
