"bird of prey"

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2013.06.23

One of the odder first words that our fourteen-month-old daughter uttered, today, was "bird of prey". It's a bit of a stretch from what she's actually muttering ("bi' oo' peyb") but she's clearly repeating a line from the song I sing while holding her aloft. She's said it a few times in the expected context.

This is the otherwise forgettable song by Fatboy Slim sampling Jim Morrison that she's unknowingly singing. The video's worth watching if nothing else.

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
