thirty traffic signals, twenty of them red

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2013.06.03

This morning I had one of those days. All three of the first traffic lights I approached turned red on me as I rolled up. Then it happened at the next two as well. So I started tracking my record as I went.

It turns out that in the ~11 kilometers on my route, there are fully thirty traffic signals.

And today, I was stopped by twenty of them changing in front of me.

Happily, the rest of the day went more smoothly (it would have to!)

Three good things that happened today:

  1. I may have been stopped at a whole bunch of red lights, but at least it wasn't raining. In fact it was a really pleasant 10°C and sunny.
  2. And I didn't get a flat tire.
  3. And I still got to work on time.

rand()m quote

It's difficult in times like these: ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality. It's a wonder I haven't abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.
