cycling in sleet

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2012.12.15

One of the hidden benefits of having lived on a foreign coast of the Pacific for five years: I'd forgotten how much freezing rain stings when you're cycling in it.

I managed to find what I hope will be a well-received X'mas gift for my wife. I feel it was worth the nasty cycling. Which was compounded by not one but two door prizes on the way home despite it being mid-afternoon and despite my day-glo vest.

rand()m quote

In the wake of 9/11, we [in America] have made the decision as a society that we can never again create something in which we can take pride, for fear that someone will destroy it. Moreover, we must suppress any trace of individualism, lest someone have the desire to rise above the bland sameness that protects us. I have, alas, no idea how to recapture our courage.
