no quiet like the absence of children

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2012.12.07

The apartment was so quiet overnight that I could hear, from my bed, the sound of the aquarium lights coming on in the living room. It's not a sound I've ever heard before, despite the fact that the kids aren't even up at that time of night (must be The Girl's pre-waking 'wooooing' sounds etc.)

This place is also about two rooms too big for a single occupant. I recall that from last Summer when the family went to Japan.

Figures that I woke to the news (via Mum) of an earthquake in Japan, close to the site of the giant 2011 quake. Ah-ya!

rand()m quote

You have to choose between trusting to the natural stability of gold and the natural stability of the honesty and intelligence of the members of the Government. And, with due respect for these gentlemen, I advise you, as long as the Capitalist system lasts, to vote for gold.

—George Bernard Shaw
