farewell my german blue rams
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
My German blue rams have died, much to my dismay.
It came hard on the heels of a die-off of four of the six little zebra danios I've just bought. They seem, if I'm not mistaken, to have been on the brink of starvation when I bought them.
And I don't think the introduction of those fish was the cause of the death of the rams. I'm sure that stress may have been a factor, but neither ram nor any of the other fish showed the slightest hint of disease or water quality problems. It could be that they're just really delicate.
I really do love the things, but I think this is the last time I'll attempt to keep them. They just don't last. These ones had been with me for about 16 months, and I was pretty disappointed that they a) died fairly quickly and b) so close together without any sign of warning or other ailment in the aquarium. But I've since read that this comes with the territory.
Not sure what I'll do next. One thing, though: I'll watch the aquarium for any further signs of trouble. Also; I'm going to start avoiding the store where I've been buying these premature and possibly underfed fish.
