movie review - Madagascar

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2012.07.19

This is an animated kids movie about a collection of zoo animals that wind up being shipped off to the African island nation of Madagascar. There, they find themselves struggling to survive in the wild, or even to understand the basics of living in an unconfined space. Consisting of a lion, zebra, giraffe, and hippo - none of which are native to Madagascar - they find themselves in the "care" of a tribe of lemurs. I could best describe the lemurs as demented and irrational, but that might stem from the personality of their leader, King Julian.

It's entertaining, our four-year-old loved it (and enjoyed some dad time after the birth of #2).

Recommended. For "movie night" with the kids.
