Santa has been!

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

St. Catharines, 2011.12.25

Kenny's not an early riser, and even the prospect of seeing Santa (or at least new presents) wasn't enough to get him up before nine!

But after that, it was an orgy of gift opening. The day was not yet over before Mari expressed some regret at having bought Kenny a "Lightning McQueen learning laptop", and that's after I'd disabled the music.

Amazon sells some noisy toys

There was also a really cool wooden car carrier, and yet more "Thomas the Tank Engine" toys - this time Kenny's cherished "Henry" and a minor character from one of the movies that was painted in teal (and which had an unusual transmission-based drive system) and a Thomas train track tunnel set. And a "Rio" DVD and panda-style toque and by gum this kid has a lot of toys.

Being the only grandson will do that.

And yes, the gift for Mari made by spiders (by which I mean silk worms, of course) and sea-critters was a modest black pearl bracelet. She was also given a beautiful wooden flower vase. I have to start getting home before the neighbourhood flower shop closes!

rand()m quote

Selfish leaders increase risk by placing themselves first. It's a fundamental mistake to assume that what is good for us personally is mutually exclusive to what is good for everyone. That kind of zero-sum game is for cowards, and in the end, we all pay the price for this type of latent, toxic leadership.
