X'mas eve in Niagara

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

St. Catharines, 2011.12.24

We've spent the day in St Catharines at "Grandma's", where a lucky little boy opened some presents.

It's been a tradition in our family to split the opening of gifts on X'mas eve and X'mas day because my father's family's German tradition was to get together on X'mas eve rather than the next day. Happily for Kenny, this means an X'mas eve chat on Skype with his Oma and Opa and opened their gift. And it was Lego with a "vehicles" theme! I was immediately tasked with building a truck.

When his great-grandmother and "Uncle Stocc" arrived, he also got some "Thomas and Friends" trains: Toby and Percy, two of the smaller of the island's trains (one is a young lad, the other an antique steam tram). Happily, the "Percy" toy talks. Ah ha, ahhhh, talking toys.
