canoeing to the outer harbour

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2011.09.18

I found myself in a canoe for the first time in years, today.

A good friend and I got his canoe in the water at Cherry Beach and paddled out to the bird sanctuary at the outer harbour. In ninety minutes or so (but who carries a watch these days) we toodled in and out of the many little bays and marinas and got a good look at the rookeries (or whatever you call the places that cormorants and seagulls nest). We got close enough to one of the floating nursery dock things to see that there were dead little ones lying about. Kinda grim!

But it's a great trip, I strongly recommend it.
