movie review - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2011.08.11

A friend gave me his Harry Potter movies to watch. They're about a young boy who returns for a third year at his school of wizardry and this time there's an escaped prisoner on the loose who's looking for our rather unlikable little British hero.

As before, it helps that the actors are growing up. But the whole thing hangs on a complex web of relationships between no fewer than four cast members who are meant to be the same age. Two are current teachers, one is the escaped prisoner, and the fourth is the boy's pet rat. I didn't understand all the dialog in the final showdown and I really didn't care.

Not recommended. I'm starting to think that these things aren't for me and also I don't know what all of the fuss is about.
