movie review - Cloverfield

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Tokyo, 2010.06.22

This is a sci-fi monster flick in which New York is invaded quite out of the blue by a towering creature dozens of meters tall (if not more) and dripping its young onto the city as it rampages about. The film stars a small gang of young people trying to out-run the mayhem. This is not generally successful, and the story is innovative in its telling to a degree that I wasn't expecting. This is neither a Godzilla movie or a zombie movie.

Recommended.

Capitalist production, therefore, only develops the techniques and the degree of combination of the social process of production by simultaneously undermining the original sources of all wealth – the soil and the worker.
