shopping
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
I can't remember a day of such intense shopping running around. Clothes for me, shoes for me (both impossible in Japan, especially the 34cm shoes), MEC for us both*, Europe Bound, and of course the ring shop.
The ring is very nice. The clothing and shoes I'm sure will be in a landfill in 4-5 years.
In the evening, we met with Ken and mum and headed out to dinner in Markham of all places. There is (or, as it turned out, was) an excellent Korean BBQ place called "Walker Hill" out in the boonies, and that's where we headed for. It had recently shut its doors, though, so we failed over to a Chinese place that had a few recommendations from the local lifestyle papers on the outside. It turned out to be rather good, though I have to say that Tokyo is spoiling me in one respect -- Canadian service is way too lax for me. I know it sounds ridiculous out of context, but why should you have to expect to wait for 5-15 minutes to place your order when you've tried flagging down a waiter.
We said our goodbyes late in the evening. Ken's back to Vancouver and mum's off to the cottage with Laurie for a couple of nights.
*I think I have to admit I have a problem when it comes to bags -- I have something like six MEC backpacks (including a smashed up old one that's been to Fiji and Australia but which has a couple of holes and is generally stiff and inflexible from over use), a (Puma) shoulder book-bag, four camera bags (camera bags are without doubt the hardest bit of photography gear to shop for, and in fairness I do have seven camera bodies), and half a dozen of larger bags that I only seem to use for travel and moving. I guess this is what comes of moving so frequently.
