movie review - Shark Tale

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2005.01.21

This is an animated flick with no fewer than three directors. It's a very paint-by-numbers story of a little guy who wants to make it big, and who captilizes on the mistaken belief that he's killed a shark in order to become a bigshot. I won't bother with the rest of the obvious story.

Aside from the lackluster story, some of the voice work wasn't particularly imaginative. Robert DeNiro as the Godfather, Will Smith as the protagonist, two very obvious choices as the leading women.... No one was even doing a voice (except, to a degree, for the supporting cast).

I was disappointed.

Not recommended.

rand()m quote

It's difficult in times like these: ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality. It's a wonder I haven't abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.
