PL-SQL

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2004.12.17

I met with Sailor Yoon and the girlfriend for a drink or two, this evening, and was interrupted at one point by a bizarre phone call. It went like this:

"Hello?"

"Can you answer one or two questions about PL/SQL?"

"Uh, yes, who is this?"

"I need PL/SQL"

"Are you sure you have the right number?"

"I'm calling, right?"

"...."

"Can you answer one or two questions about PL/SQL?"

"What do you want to know?"

"It's very loud where you are!"

"I'm in a pub!"

"Oh, you're in a pub?"

"Yes, who is this?"

"Can you answer one or two questions about PL/SQL?"

"I'm hanging up, now!"

After hanging up, I wondered what that had been all about. I decided that someone had found my resume in a desperate search for PL/SQL online, and had called the phone number on the resume. Pretty bizarre.

Tracey assured me that it was an unannounced job interview, a response to one of the jobs I'd applied for.

...and when you try to get some, it surely can be hard. There's always trouble waiting, when you leave your own back yard.
