filing my negatives (sexy, right?)

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Halifax, 2004.06.20

I spent the whole evening filing negatives into sleeve-sheets, last night. As of 10:00 this morning, I've filed 60 sheets worth of negatives—some 50 rolls, I'd estimate. I've pitched *a lot* of prints in the process, which feels good.

But it's clear now that the single binder and 100 sleeve-sheets that I bought are woefully insufficient for the job. I've cleared up maybe 1/6 of the giant box o' negatives that I have, and the worrying thing is I was clearing up the little packets that had prints in them. These all dated to my days before I had a slide/negative scanner. When I got my first scanner, I stopped getting prints made. So the bulk of what I have left are much smaller packets—those that don't contain any prints. So I imagine I might have another 400 rolls to sort out and file. Aaaigh!

rand()m quote

It may be that when we no longer know what to do we have come to our real work, and that when we no longer know which way to go we have come to our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings.
