extra treacherous

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Halifax, 2004.05.28

This week I've been trying to add some physical exercise to my routine.

In specific, I've taken the stairs up and down the 9 flights at the office. Except for one time when the stairs were locked (because it was—gasp—after 18:00!) I only took the elevators one time.

I'd tried to do the same in the building I live in, but the stairs are Extra Treacherous, and after falling twice I decided to give up on them.

rand()m quote

It has always seemed strange to me...The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling, are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest, are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second.

—John Steinbeck, Cannery Row
