movie review - Treasure Planet

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2002.12.01

This is a Disney animated flick that takes Treasure Island into space. A space where people can breath the interstellar void and the absence of anti-gravity causes things to drift upward, but I suppose I digress. In all, it's an entertaining flick. While a touch overly sentimental, and certainly full of all of the usual Disneyisms (there's even a basket of Disney animal babies at the end) it manages to add a few interesting ideas to a story that's clearly aimed at kids.

Recommended.

A creative person would prefer their music to be stolen and enjoyed than ignored. This is the dilemma for every creative soul: he or she would prefer to starve and be heard than to eat well and be ignored.
