car vandalism and theft in Vancouver

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Vancouver, 2002.06.12

It seems that Rogers (cable modem) and Bell (ADSL) are imposing 'bit caps' on their high-speed internet services. If you download or upload more than 5GB a month (each measured separately) they ding you for an extra $8/GB! In some parts of the country, these services already cost in excess of $50/month as it is. Happily, there seem to be more alternatives now than there were in the past.

About three weeks ago, my brother bought a new car. In the first week, someone stuck a screwdriver into the door's lock, got the door open, and took everything they could from the inside (even the little paper notebook he kept in the pocket in the door). Last night, someone came along and stole all four of his wheels. I'm going over to take a pic; apparently the car is up on cinder blocks.

rand()m quote

The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to such a pass that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love, and in order to occupy and distract himself without love he gives way to passions and coarse pleasures, and sinks to bestiality in his vices, all from continual lying to other men and to himself.

—Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov
