struggling with an old watch

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Vancouver, 2002.03.05

I decided to resurrect my old watch from the drawer where it had been sitting since I moved here. The GUESS watch that I got as a replacement for the one Sara got me three years ago just stopped working when I moved here. Almost to the day of my move, actually.

That watch would be fast, and I'd fix it. Then it would be slow, and I'd fix it. And not a little fast or slow; 90 minutes or three hours fast or slow, and it would seem to happen in the space of hours. And the strangest thing is that if I didn't wear it, it would keep perfect time. That was something like the fourth watch I've owned to which that's happened. Since that watch packed it in, I've been using my ironman digital. But I like analog better, and the old one still looks pretty good, given that it was the watch my parents gave me for my high school graduation....
