movie review - The One

twenty-seven years and one million words

Vancouver, 2001.11.10

This is a Jet Li ultraviolence sci-fi flick. It's got a surprisingly consistent and intelligent plot for a main-stream sci-fi flick, I have to say, and is very well paced and set. It's nowhere near as gruesome as "Kiss of the Dragon", Li's last outing, and is chock full of funky Matrix-esque special effects. An entertaining action flick.

Recommended.

Illusions commend themselves to us because they save us pain and allow us to enjoy pleasure instead. We must therefore accept it without complaint when they sometimes collide with a bit of reality against which they are dashed to pieces.
