movie review - Unbreakable

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Sydney, 2000.12.02

This flick is about an ordinary man (marriage in trouble, one kid, job as a security guard) who survives an extraordinary train crash. When he does (and he's the sole survivor), he's contacted by a wealthy comic book collector who believes that the survivor has special powers.

Needless to say, the collector turns out to be right. It's not a happy movie, but it's an interesting one, and a well-directed one. Throw in a surprise at the end, and you've got a story that involves a superhero but seems possible.

Recommended.

rand()m quote

I feel fortunate that I enjoyed the blandishments of modernity. I had hip replacement and root canal. I was able to travel on airplanes. I was able to take cheap food for granted. I went to the movies. I enjoyed rock 'n' roll. And now I'm ready to move on.
