Ken's university career begins here

Toronto, 2026.08.30

Today, my son's university experience begins. We started the day going down to the old Gerrard street Chinatown to get breakfast. The woman running the place knows about people avoiding gluten, and she sorted me out. Then Ken (finally!) was able to get into his school's week-long orientation program, a huge relief. We packed up and got out of our Air B&B, and went for a walk down Leslie Street Spit. I hadn't been in some years, and it was nice to see how overgrown everything is, you could almost belief it's a natural place. Also, there are so many new buildings across the waterfront and along the Danforth subway line, it's really quite a different city.

Anyroad, we then zipped over to his residence and got him moved in, right on time. He's in a "co-ed" dorm, it seems. We then went back to the B&B (I still had their key!) and then went for Vietnamese food in the same Chinatown.

I then took him to a coffee shop I knew down on Queen street (it seems he too remembered it from his childhood) and I gave him some last minute insights into the nature of reality in preparation for what he's going to experience.

Then I took him back to the school and left the city. Though by "left the city" I am glossing over half an hour of crawling down Spadina and then start-and-stop across the Gardiner. Good gravy, that city.
