I'm staying in a hotel near my employer's HQ in The Hague. When I was here in November, I found a great Surinamese restaurant some blocks away. Tonight I went back and had the spicy duck stew. Soooo good. But every person in the place asked me if the spice was okay. When I asked if their usual Dutch clients had problems with the spice one person assured me that the Dutch in fact were great with the spiciness. Uh-huh.
Outstanding Surinamese food
I sent a note to the colleagues with whom I had visited last time; I told them that the fellow who took our order actually remembered that we (my own white self and a bunch of Europeans) had been there as a group. Adding this all up, I gather they mostly sell to the Caribbean population here. Your loss, Dutch folk!
