Today I was tasked with an unusual shopping list at the grocery store. There was a challenge because I had to understand which of the meat products had a name in hiragana that matched the kanji Mari had sent. Without resorting to the translation app in my phone, I successfully worked it out. Also, that the popcorn was in the alcohol section - something "I" solved by asking a father/daughter combo.
All of this went down in Japanese. I'm slowly getting there.
